Other Info:
The track existed until 1973 when work on building the M11 at this point commenced. Meetings were still held on it until at least 1972. It was situated immediately to the west of the current synthetic track and one of the straights is still part visible and appeared to have been 6 lanes wide. The other straight is now under the M11. The old pavilion at the track was opened on 14th October 1937 at the same time as the playing fields although it is not known whether there was a track here from the start. The grounds were named after Mr. H.S. Ashton of Ingatestone who put up most of the money.
