Nelly Hicks set a world record for 880y at the "Recreation Ground" in the 5th Devon Sports & Cycle Club Championships. The track is thought to have been temporary grass. Open meetings were also held here in the 1960s and 70s. First-class cricket matches have been staged at the Recreation Ground on Rathmore Road which is presumably the same place although not until 1954. Some sort of track was in use in Torquay in the late 19th century but not sure of the exact location.
