Other Info:
The original cinder track which was 6 lanes all round and 440y was believed to have been built in the 1950s and in memory of Douglas Joseph Geere who was a pupil at the school in Preshute House from 1908-1912 and was killed in action on 23rd Feb 1916. The track was altered to a 400m one in the 1970s. There used to be a synthetic HJ area, 2 single-ended LJ only pits one of which was synthetic (these were further into the first bend D than the current ones), 2 SP circles, 1 DT cage, 1 JT runway and a S/C water jump with a real hedge. Work began on upgrading the track to synthetic in early 2000 and was completed by late summer 2000. The new track was built by Charles Lawrence so the surface is probably Spiketop. A viewing area and timekeeper's steps from the original track are built into the banking alongside the home straight but both are unsafe to access. There is also a small pavilion at the track. Marlborough College is an independent school.
