Other Info:
This was a 440y cinder track inside a 3.5 laps to the mile banked cycle track. The running track had 110y straights and was 20 feet wide on the home straight and 15 feet on the back. The cycle track was 27 feet wide on the home straight and 25 feet on the back. There is a reference to a proposed opening meeting on Whit Monday 1895 promoted by the Essex Cycling Union. A 20 mile professional running record of 1:53.42 was set here by Len Hurst in 1900. It is thought to have been used until about 1910 then was built over.
