Other Info:
The first track here had square corners and was built in 1921. It was replaced by a regular 6 lane 440y track in 1950 but the home straight fell downhill by about 10 feet and so 'good' times were often recorded here. The track was used by Southgate Harriers until they changed their name in 1974. It has now been grassed over but from subtle changes in grass texture one can detect that it was 6 lanes. You can just about make out a LJ run-up by the same method. There is uncovered terracing on one side and what appears to have been the entrance to the pavilion which used to be here. The track was always referred to as being in Southgate with abbreviation London (Sg) but Palmers Green seems to be the nearest 'place' these days.
