Other Info:
This indoor hall was built in the early 1860s and was converted into the Business Design Centre in 1986. It was used for races from at least 8th Feb 1876 when the American Edward Weston raced against William Perkins in a 24 hour walking race. At the 1st Astley Belt 6 day go-as-you please race which started on 18th March 1878 two tracks were used - a 7 laps to the mile one for Englishmen and an 8 laps to the mile one for foreigners. The 4th Astley Belt race on 15-21 June 1879 was held on an 8 laps to the mile loam and fine gravel track. On 20-25 June 1881 a 6 day race took place at the Marble Rink on Clapham Road which was probably a one-off venue.
