Other Info:
The track existed until the early 1990s when all weather hockey pitches were built over it. It was a 440y track which opened in the 1930s and was never converted to 400m. It was probably the last track in the country to have a 220 yard straight and also a "straight" start to the 440 yards, i.e. there was a straight run in to the track at right angles to the finishing straight. The track was regularly used well into the 1980s until the track at Beckett Park was resurfaced after which the university matches took place there and the track became redundant.
