The track opened in 1996 with help from a Lottery Sports Award. The opening meeting was an international between GB, Germany & Russia. There is a pavilion at the track. This is the venue of the annual World Double Decathlon & Heptathlon Championships - see www.teamdecathlon.com for further details.
