Other Info:
The original cinder track was 400m and 6 lanes all round and built in 1981. According to this article it may have been the last "cinder" one built in the UK. It was in poor condition with bad drainage but was still used by Crowborough Runners. There were no usable field facilities with just a LJ pit but no runway. In 1999, there were plans for a £1.2 million development of the recreation ground on which the track is situated to include a 400m synthetic track, floodlit football pitch and astro-turf pitch but these plans never came out. 18 years later Crowborough Town Council who own the track undertook for it to be upgraded to synthetic with a "polymetric" surface but reduced in width to 3 lanes all round. It was officially opened on 9th September 2017 by the Paralympic athlete Vanessa Wallace along with fellow Paralympics athlete Danny Crates, Wealden MP Nus Ghani and Mayor Councillor Peter Ellefsen.
