Other Info:
The track was built in 1980 with 7 lanes all round and was partly relaid in about 1990 but by the late 1990s was very tatty and in need of resurfacing. It closed on 3rd August 2001 for a complete overhaul including changing the configuration to 6 lanes with an 8 lane straight and reopened in June 2002. The original synthetic track was referred to be as being the Cumberland Athletics Track at Cumberland Sports Ground but since reopening Cumberland Arena is now the name. Future plans include raising the infield to the level of the track and grant applications have been made for improved floodlights, track & field equipment and storage areas.
