Other Info:
The Odyssey Arena is the showpiece of Odyssey, Northern Ireland's Landmark Millennium Project. The Odyssey complex also features W5, an interactive science and technology centre, Sheridan IMAX® theatre and the Sheridan Pavilion featuring bars, restaurants, shops and the Warner Village Cinemas multiplex with 12 screens. The arena which was designed by Marshall Haines & Barrow can be used for a variety of sporting and cultural activities and opened on 2nd December 2000 with an ice hockey match between the Belfast Giants and the Ayr Eagles. The track has hydraulic bends which can be raised for athletics events and then lowered afterwards. The rest of the oval would be covered when not in use. Only the 6 lane 60m sprint straight and the internal PV and LJ/TJ runways are rolled up when not in use. The surface of the track is Mondo Sportflex Super X Classic as is common with all the UK's oval indoor tracks and it is coloured in a single shade of a blue. The capacity of the arena is 10,000 for non athletic events but drops to 4002 for athletics. The track was used for the first time on 15-16 Feb 2003 when the Irish Indoor Champs were staged here. It is highly unlikely that the track will be generally available for training. The Odyssey Arena has a website www.odysseyarena.com and there is also one for the whole complex at www.theodyssey.co.uk.
