Other Info:
The track was originally cinder and built in the mid 1960s. The foundation stone for the stadium building was laid by Brian Clough on 13th March 1973 and the synthetic track was completed in April 1974 and originally had a 3M Tartan surface. The track hosted the UK Championships in the 1970s. It was resurfaced in 1980 with Avon Polytrack and again in July 1988 with ClubTrack NP113. The diagram of the old track layout can be seen here. Work started on a £5.6M refurbishment of the track and stadium in summer 2000 and the track reopened in mid August 2002. The main contractor for the latest work on the track was Charles Lawrence. The track was completely resurfaced and the field events facilities completely renewed. The main stadium was restored and the uncovered seating in front of the main stand was removed. The track will be closed for the early part of summer 2004 to do some snagging work.
